Evenings at Halcyon Cove are all about delicious food and authentically Caribbean entertainment. Once the sun has gone down, the Arawak Terrace plays host to a buffet of delicious creole cuisine, alongside international favourites for less adventurous palates. One of Halcyon Cove’s most spectacular places to be is Warri Pier, our romantic a la carte restaurant, located on its own pier overlooking the ocean. After dinner, the elegant Ciboney Lounge is a great place to relax and take in some traditional Antiguan culture, whilst the lively Lobby Bar hosts a range of music-based entertainment. Steel bands, limbo dancers, calypso singers, folkloric groups -- there's always something happening by night on Antigua. Your hotel can probably tell you where to go on any given night. The following clubs are reliable hot spots. The best place to be on island on Sunday afternoon is Shirley Heights Lookout at Shirley Heights. Beginning at 4pm, a barbecue is staged here, followed by a reggae and steel-pan band for dancing later in the evening. Celebrities such as Chuck Norris or Whitney Houston have joined in the fun. Many locals arrive on any late afternoon, grab a sundowner, and head for the patio in the rear to watch Antigua's most spectacular sunset. Sunday's EC$10 (US$3.70) cover charge includes the first drink. 18 Carat, Long Street at Market Street, St. John's opened in 2002 and rose instantly to the status of most popular and sought-after dance club and night bar on the island. Expect a cover charge of less than US$3 per person, an indoor-outdoor format that's open to a view of the night air of downtown St. John's, and a barrage of music that includes lots of reggae and soca. It's open Friday to Sunday from around 8pm to 1am. Stop in at the Bay House, Tradewinds Hotel, Marble Hill for the island's best mix of singles (both straight and -- to a much lesser degree -- gay). Lashings, Runaway Bay (tel. 268/462-4438), is the hangout of local cricketers, and always attracts a fun-loving bevy of patrons who dance the night away when not ordering Tex-Mex fare. Live nightly entertainment takes place right on the beach at Millers by the Sea, at Runaway Beach). Its happy hour is the best in town.
